World Congress of Alliances Françaises

This event was an opportunity to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Alliance Française founded in 1883 in Paris.

It took place in La Maison de L'unesco and all the Presidents were invited to meet the French President Emanuel Macron at l'Elyzée.

A little history :

1883: "The national association for the propagation of the French language in the colonies and abroad" is born under the aegis of Paul Cambon and Pierre Foncin.

1884: Ferdinand de Lesseps, Louis Pasteur, Ernest Renan, Jules Verne, Armand Colin… are among the members of the Board of Directors of the Alliance Française de Paris.

The first Alliance Française in Europe opens in Barcelona, ​​then it is born in Senegal, Mauritius and Mexico.

1886: the Alliance Française de Paris is recognized as a public utility.

The Alliances Françaises network is today the leading cultural network in the world.

It currently has 832 locations in more than 130 countries around the world.
